The construction of quotes can be simplified by making in-house assembled items follow cost and price changes in their component parts. Products could then be defined as having structured costs, with a markup to derive the product's price. Alternatively, a product's price may be derived by application of markups to each of its sub-components.

This is a powerful feature where your primary business is to "build-to-order" by combining items or by engineering your own products.

The cost and/or price of an item can be defined as being a structured cost and/or structured price. This means that the item (a structured item) is based in some way on one or more other items. Structured items can be created by naming other items as components and providing a quantity for each. Associated labour costs can optionally be included.

A structured item can be defined as a kit-of-parts composed of other items nested to several levels, as a component may itself be a structured item.

Component cost and price changes, optionally including labour, are propagated appropriately up all structured items containing the component.
